Director Mati Diop (whose short film Mille soleils entered MoMA’s collection in 2016) presents a captivating contemporary tale of migration from the vantage point of those left behind. Ada (brilliantly portrayed by Mama Sané) and her circle of women friends encounter fantastical and frightening new experiences after their boyfriends disappear at sea one night. The first film directed by a black woman to compete at Cannes, Atlantique (Atlantics) was awarded the 2019 Grand Prix by the jury.

Organized by the Department of Film.

Support for the exhibition is provided by the Annual Film Fund. Leadership support for the Annual Film Fund is provided by the Kate W. Cassidy Foundation and Steven Tisch, with major contributions from Jo Carole and Ronald S.
